Uttar Pradesh is a state in northern India. With around 200 million inhabitants, it is the most populous state in India as well as the most populous country in the world. It was created on 1 April 1937 during the British rule as a joint province of Agra and Awadh, and in 1950 the name of Uttar Pradesh was changed.

Mathura

Mathura is a sacred city in Uttar Pradesh, northern India. The deity Lord Krishna is said to have been born on the site of Sri Krishna Janma Bhoomi, a Hindu temple. Dotting the Yamuna River is 25 ghats (flights of steps down to the water), of which Vishram Ghat is considered the holiest. Sati Burj is a 16th-century memorial tower. Dwarkadhish Temple has a carved entrance and a black-marble idol of Lord Krishna.

Famous for being the birthplace of Hindu God Krishna, Mathura is one of the seven sacred cities of Hinduism and attracts pilgrims during Janmashtami (Krishna's Birthday). The city has spread from the era of temples and the holy Yamuna from many ages, which flows past here. Today, the rest of the ancient city is beautifully rescued from the ruins when it appears in the archaeological museum. These are some of the best attractions around Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple, Geeta Mandir, Radha Kund, Jama Masjid and the surroundings.

Agra


Agra is a city in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh state. It's home to the iconic Taj Mahal, a mausoleum built for the Mughal ruler Shah Jahan’s wife, Mumtaz Mahal (who died in childbirth in 1631). The imposing main building features a massive dome and intricately carved white marble inlaid with precious stones. This is set behind a reflecting pool inside a courtyard defined by 4 minarets.

Ghats in Varanasi
